Blackout Poems.
In the spring of 2021, I found myself needing to make a career change but struggling to figure out what to do next. We were in the thick of the pandemic lockdown (which one? - I don’t remember) and I was helping my young son navigate on-line schooling from home. So, I didn’t have a lot of time or undivided attention.
I needed a project - a very small project - to get me moving in a new direction.
At the same time, I found the work of Austin Kleon and was instantly drawn in by his blackout poems and habits of daily making and sharing.
With the limited time I had, and a lot of unused architectural and art tools, I gave it a try. Little by little this project opened up my creative wellspring again. For that I am eternally grateful!
Though I still make blackout poems to share on social media from time to time, I’m working on other projects now too.
Below are some of my favorite poems from this project.
